daemons of the shadow realm
masahiro ando, 2026
recommended for james
i wanted to recommend this dark fantasy anime because i heard james enjoys anime too! it follows a teenage boy who discovers creatures called daemons and gets pulled into a dangerous supernatural adventure while searching for answers about his twin sister.
content note: graphic violence and gore, torture, disturbing themes
strangers from hell
lee chang-hee, 2019
recommended for juhoon
it's the best psychological horror show i have ever watched. there is a really well made plot twist at the end too so you can create your own theories! the show was inspired by the webtoon "hell is other people"
content note: graphic violence, psychological torture, disturbing themes
head over heels
kim yong-wan, 2025

it’s a comforting fantasy high school k-drama with really good acting, a perfect plot, lots of cute moments between characters, and beautiful cinematography. if you’re looking for a new fantasy k-drama or just a k-drama to watch in general, i think this would be a great choice.

twinkling watermelon
son jong-hyun, 2023
recommended for all of cortis
this k-drama gives a reminder that youth is never coming back. from close-knit friendships, enjoying youth and making music to emotional depth and young love. i think it's something cortis will enjoy.
content note: violence, abuse and discrimination, suicide themes
twisted wonderland
yana toboso, 2025
recommended for james
james has mentioned that he watches anime, so i'm recommending one that was released as an adaptation from one of my favourite games. season 2 is coming soon this year too.
content note: mild violence
pose
ryan murphy, 2018
recommended for coer
the show explores 1980s new york ballroom culture and the systemic struggles faced by the lgbtq+ community, especially trans women of color. the cast and story are amazing, and it’s genuinely one of the most emotional things i’ve ever watched.
content note: sexual violence, abuse and hate crimes, suicide and murder
no. 6
kenji nagasaki, 2011
recommended for james
since he likes emotional anime like violet evergarden, he might enjoy no. 6 as well. it has a dystopian setting, but the main focus is on the characters and their relationship. it’s also pretty short, so it’s easy to get through.
content note: government oppression, state violence, medical abuse
the good place
michael schur, 2016
recommended for james
i feel like this show is so james coded. the humor is top notch and the way it brings up philosophical discussions about the afterlife and life in general. what makes a person good or bad, etc.. i think james would find it very interesting and funny.
content note: mild language, sexual content, adult humor
gilmore girls
amy sherman-palladino, 200
recommended for all of cortis
my ultimate comfort show!! it doesn’t have one big meaningful message, but it does deal with life crises and the messiness that comes with them. it’s perfect for a quiet, relaxed night when you want something less intense, and imo it’s the ultimate fall series.
content note: sexual content, substance use, insensitive humor
sherlock
mark gatiss, 2010
recommended for james
sherlock is one of the best series i’ve ever watched because everything, from the cinematography to the dialogue, feels so cleverly designed. since james likes christopher nolan movies and seems into the mcu, i think he’d really enjoy its layered storytelling and benedict cumberbatch as sherlock.
content note: violence, psychological distress, substance use
hey arnold
craig bartlett, 1996
recommended for martin
this 90s/early 2000s cartoon reminds me of martin. there's something about the aesthetic, the characters of arnold and gerald in particular, that feel very martin in some way. i think he'd enjoy this show because of its themes, storytelling, and general 90s city aesthetic.
adolescence
philip barantini, 2025
recommended for james
james would love the way each episode was filmed in one continuous shot making the storyline feel realistic and raw.
content note: explicit language, violence, disturbing themes
gachiakuta
kei urana, 2025
recommended for james
i think james would like the style and vibe of that anime, also since he‘s into thrifting/vintage! it implements themes like waste culture, anti-authoritarian structures and classism. i think he would enjoy the concept of objects gaining power from a persons deep attachment to it, basically reflecting the users soul and thoughts :)
content note: mature themes, intense violence, psychological distress
my dearest
kim sung-yong, 2023
recommended for martin
i'd recommend this to martin just really is an individual with so much love and passion for life, music, the stage, you name it. my dearest shows the story of enduring and steadfast love in the face of foreign invasion. i like how the relationship between the leads was more mature with how well communication was handled in the drama
content note: graphic violence, war themes, psychological trauma
death’s game
ha byung-hoon, 2023
recommended for martin
after a series of setbacks, choi yi-jae meets death personified and is forced to experience death multiple times for a chance to live again. through it, he learns how deeply his choices affect the people he cares about, and i think martin might resonate with the idea of embracing pain as part of life.
content note: suicide, graphic violence, gore
derry girls
lisa mcgee, 2018
recommended for james
derry girls is a teen sitcom about five teenagers navigating adolescence during the troubles in 1990s northern ireland. the episodes are only 20 to 30 minutes, every character is crazy as hell, and the soundtrack is so good too with lots of the cranberries and take that.
content note: explicit language, sexual humor, substance use, conflict and terrorism themes
what comes after love
moon hyun-sung, 2024
recommended for martin
a melodrama about how love isn’t always enough, and how people can grow distant when they no longer understand each other. it follows a second-chance love story between a woman studying in japan and a japanese man, and i think martin might enjoy it since he seems drawn to more melancholic, romantic stories like the sorrows of young werther.
content note: grief, relationship conflict, mature themes
attack on titan
janine isayama, 2009
recommended for james
james is really into anime, so maybe he would like this one!
content note: graphic violence, gore, explicit language
