yoshifumi kondo, 1995
recommended for juhoon
i just know he would loveeee the love story and the magic in the story, as well as the aesthetic of the movie as a whole.
just for me
pinkpantheress, 2013
recommended for seonghyeon
what i have heard from seonghyeonie’s personal music taste this specific song (most of pinkpantheress song in fact) really reminds me of him and i reckon he will enjoy it as much as i do!
content note: stalking, obsessive behavior, emotional distress
the midnight library
matt haig, 2020
recommended for all of cortis
this book is a science fiction story about nora seed, a depressed woman who visits a magical library between life and death where she can try out alternate versions of her life. it explores the choices we make, the regrets that linger, and that constant question of whether life might have been better if we had chosen differently.
content note: suicide themes, mental health themes, grief and loss
i who have never known men
jacqueline harpman, 1995
recommended for juhoon
it's thought provoking :)
content note: captivity, abuse, psychological distress
the getaway
the strike, 2026
recommended for martin
i think it's a song he'd enjoy listening to while on the road or on the plane :) i also feel like he would relate to the song really well.
marina
carlos ruiz zafón, 1999
recommended for all of cortis
it’s a mystery novel with some darker moments, but nothing too scary, and it’s written so beautifully and descriptively that you feel like you’re walking around barcelona with the characters. the relationships are incredibly moving, and the story is so good it’ll have you reading nonstop. one of my all-time favorites!
content note: dark themes, disturbing imagery, sensitive subjects
worldwide underground
erykah badu, 2003
recommended for all of cortis
i think they’d really like the album’s mix of hip hop, soul, r&b, and funk, plus collabs with icons like queen latifah. she’s also such an inspiring artist, using her music to speak about the struggles of black people and make strong sociopolitical critiques.
content note: explicit language, mature themes, adult references
gilmore girls
amy sherman-palladino, 200
recommended for all of cortis
my ultimate comfort show!! it doesn’t have one big meaningful message, but it does deal with life crises and the messiness that comes with them. it’s perfect for a quiet, relaxed night when you want something less intense, and imo it’s the ultimate fall series.
content note: sexual content, substance use, insensitive humor
valencia
yeek, 2021
recommended for all of cortis
i first thought keonho would love this album, and yeek in general, because to me his sound feels like a mix of dominic fike and brent faiyaz. the members all have their own tastes, but there’s enough overlap that i could see the rest of cortis enjoying it too.
call it fate, call it karma
the strokes, 2013
recommended for juhoon
jju must know the strokes, and this song strips away their signature gritty rock for a dreamy, lo-fi sound that feels like a 1940s jazz lounge record. recorded during a period of heavy internal conflict, it was meant as a quiet goodbye to their fans and each other, with julian casablancas’ fragile falsetto capturing that feeling of helplessness and moving on.
sherlock
mark gatiss, 2010
recommended for james
sherlock is one of the best series i’ve ever watched because everything, from the cinematography to the dialogue, feels so cleverly designed. since james likes christopher nolan movies and seems into the mcu, i think he’d really enjoy its layered storytelling and benedict cumberbatch as sherlock.
content note: violence, psychological distress, substance use
love you like
derivakat, 2025
recommended for coer
love you like is a calming song talking about how a person doesn’t express love in ways like poems or other forms of writing, while also talking about other ways they might express love to a significant other.
