the percy jackson and the olympians series
rick riordan, 2005
recommended for james
the series is fantasy themed which james might enjoy since he likes anime, and the language really suits james’ goofiness. since the series was made to help kids with adhd and dyslexia feel less left out, i think its message of acceptance and belonging could be really comforting to him too.
content note: fantasy violence, mature themes
the devil wears prada
david frankel, 2006
recommended for juhoon
classic, exquisite, timeless. i chose to recommend this for juhoon because he exudes such a model aura and i do think he would find the movie fun
content note: explicit language, sexual content, body image issues
home alone
chris columbus, 1990
recommended for all of cortis
home alone is a great christmas watch and is incredibly funny. despite the humor, it has so many great lessons
content note: slapstick violence, explicit language, suggestive content
music, fashion, film
charli xcx, 2026
recommended for martin
unlike the heavier hyperpop and electronic sounds of brat, charli’s newest album blends pop, electronic rock, indietronica, and hyperpop with more vulnerable lyrics, creating a sonic world you have to feel. its mix of music, fashion, and film also feels very martin as an all-around artist.
content note: explicit language, mature themes
cecilia
shye, 2025
recommended for all of cortis
this song is about vulnerability, self-reflection, and the beginning of the healing process. shye’s album “the doves came home” reminds me of how i felt when i found both shye and cortis during a time of sadness and disorientation, and i hope it can bring comfort to others who find healing through music too.
electro world
perfume, 2006
recommended for martin
considering that martin’s the kind of guy who loves to enjoy his life regardless of the circumstances that come his way… i feel like this song really resonates with what i visualize martin’s personality since he always tries to search for genuine connections and bonds with everything he does in his daily life
my dearest
kim sung-yong, 2023
recommended for martin
i'd recommend this to martin just really is an individual with so much love and passion for life, music, the stage, you name it. my dearest shows the story of enduring and steadfast love in the face of foreign invasion. i like how the relationship between the leads was more mature with how well communication was handled in the drama
content note: graphic violence, war themes, psychological trauma
death’s game
ha byung-hoon, 2023
recommended for martin
after a series of setbacks, choi yi-jae meets death personified and is forced to experience death multiple times for a chance to live again. through it, he learns how deeply his choices affect the people he cares about, and i think martin might resonate with the idea of embracing pain as part of life.
content note: suicide, graphic violence, gore
derry girls
lisa mcgee, 2018
recommended for james
derry girls is a teen sitcom about five teenagers navigating adolescence during the troubles in 1990s northern ireland. the episodes are only 20 to 30 minutes, every character is crazy as hell, and the soundtrack is so good too with lots of the cranberries and take that.
content note: explicit language, sexual humor, substance use, conflict and terrorism themes
twilight
catherine hardwicke, 2008
recommended for james
my personal rec for none other than james cullen. the cinematography of twilight never gets old and is a cult classic because it's just that iconic, and has shaped pop culture in more ways than one
content note: violence, sexual assault, suicide themes, kidnapping, toxic relationships
the karate kid
harald zwart, 2010
recommended for martin
martin has recently been seen interested in boxing, and i think martial arts isn't too far off. karate kid is a classic with an amazing performance from the legend jackie chan and a plot you'll never forget
content note: bullying and violence, grief, substance use
what comes after love
moon hyun-sung, 2024
recommended for martin
a melodrama about how love isn’t always enough, and how people can grow distant when they no longer understand each other. it follows a second-chance love story between a woman studying in japan and a japanese man, and i think martin might enjoy it since he seems drawn to more melancholic, romantic stories like the sorrows of young werther.
content note: grief, relationship conflict, mature themes
the mortal instruments: city of bones
harald zwat, 2013
recommended for martin
martin reminds me so much of jace herondale in terms of the musical talent, courage, wit and loyalty towards his friends and family. i see him loving the cinematography and the building structures. this is one of my favorite fantasy stories of all time - the world building is immaculate too.
content note: violence, sexual content, substance use, supernatural themes
charlie and the chocolate factory
tim burton, 2005
recommended for james
a classic adaptation from roald dahl, and it's a tim burton adaptation at that. james just feels like a tim burton character in a good way, and i also think he would enjoy the story for what it is.
content note: mild violence, frightening themes, mature content
flat girls
jirassaya wongsutin, 2025
recommended for james
it left me distraught for a week but its genuinely such a great film
content note: mature themes
